Nuf said!

So, we combined the As and Bs and ran three races for each group. That’s what I’m talking about! A relatively large group of riders came out to race their bikes on a beautiful summer San Jose evening. Light winds and temps in the 70’s. A relatively low turnout but all three categories were racing hard. I’d like to give a special nod of appreciation to Derek Dixon who has been commuting regularly from Sacramento to make this series, to stretch his legs and to earn, in the true sense of the word, his upgrade scratch. Way to go Derek!

12 year old Dylan Drummond continues to spin his little heart out. He and his father Glenn have been regulars at this series and both have improved their speed, skills and sprints.

Finally, if I get a Hi-Ball vote I’d have to submit Sabine Dukes as my top choice. She is also a regular of the Tuesday nights and has progressed from pack rider to aggressor/ attacker. He tried to put over a lap, but the battered field still had enough strength to fight for pride. We did have a single crash inthe B's, and it was the fruity kind with huge raspberries and strawberries, though it had nothing to do with Giant Strawberry rider Keith Miller. Glen K spent most of the night sweeping the apron and half hopeful each time a brownie prime was rung, that he might run through the finish line broom in hand to claim his own prime. I hope there was enough for him to get one.

Thanks to Brian Peterson for running the races, for Kelyn showing up for a celebrity appearance before AVC and for all the riders who turned cards and rung bells including Jen and Dash. Just one note on lapping/getting lapped, please think ahead. If you are down and suddenly riders are there, stay down... riders will go over. It's alwasy nice if lapped riders move up, just not at the last minute! And if you are lapping riders, please yell stay so that people know you're coming.

Cs 30 lap points race- 12 starters
1.Scott Regan (Fremont)
2.Niv Levy (Cal Cycling)
3.Kevin Scott Davis (Quad Cycles)
4.Tom Luttrell (synergy)
5.Mark Peters (Team Intense)
6.Dylan Drummond (Tieni Duro)
7.Saeed Abedi (Alto Velo)
8.Ivan Podduboyy (Alto Velo)

Bs 30 lap points race- 10 starters
●Prime --Matt Beebe
1.Murray Swanson (Pen Velo)
2.Ray Gildea (Pen Velo)
3.David Puglia (Specialized/SugarCRM)
4.Tim Bisson (FFBC)
5.Chris Tanner (Specialized/SugarCRM)
6.Amanda Seigle (Code3 Racing)
7.Niv Levy (Cal Cycling)
8.Matt Beebe (Alto Velo)

Cs 30 lap points race- 12 starters
1.Mark Peters (Team Intense)
2.Tom Luttrell (synergy)
3.Kevin Scott Davis (Quad Cycles)
4.Saeed Abedi(Alto Velo)
5.Niv Levy (Cal Cycling)
6.Scott Regan (Fremont)
7.Ivan Podduboyy (Alto Velo)
8.Glenn Drummond (Tieni Duro)

As 40 lap points race – 15 starters
Prime--Murray Swanson
1.James Badia (Webcor)
2.Keith Miller (Giant Strawberry)
3.Derek Dixon (East Sac Bike)
4.Eric Balfus (LGBRC)
5.Mark Patten (Clean Racer)

Bs 40 laps points race- 11 starters
●Prime --Niv Levy
●Prime --Ray Gildea
1.Ray Gildea (Pen Velo)
2.David Puglia (Specialized/SugarCRM)
3.Scott Regan (Fremont)
4.Amanda Seigle (Code3 Racing)
5.Tim Bisson (FFBC)
6.Tim Fehon (unattached)

As 40 lap points race – 15 starters
●Prime—Some Lucky Guy
●Prime--James Badia
1.James Badia (Webcor)
2.Derek Dixon (East Sac Bike)
3.Eric Balfus (LGBRC)
4.Stan Terusaki (Morgan Stanley)
5.Grant Foster (SJBC Sugar/CRM)
6.Keith Miller (Giant Strawberry)
7.Tim Granshaw (Sierra Pacific)

Tuesday, June 10 Race Results

Tuesday, June 10 Race Results, with primes provided by Jen and Marc!

Wowza. Thank you all for supporting this series.

Next Tuesday and for every Tuesday in June we return to scratch racing. I had a blast out there tonight. Not only was there great racing but there were also some great efforts, including some notable rider improvements.

Eleven women showed up and ruled the first race of the night. Wow, was that fun to watch as Beth, Sabine, Alison and the gang played out their tactics. First class racing. Beth raced two Cs events and then placed 5th in the Bs event to fill her night. Sabine rode an impressively tactical race. Congrats to all.

The Bs racing is almost always the most competitive event of the evening. Check out how many riders scored points and were in contention! Very competitive.

And, finally the As race had a competitive event. I say this because the As usually have a few ringers show up and dominate, but not tonight as there was a full field of ringers. Yes, we are off to the races for 2008!

Thank you to Gerry for the Aussie Pies and to Marc and Jen for the Chocolate Brownies, which made for some great sprinting!

Cs 30 lap points race- 15 starters, 16:10 min. = 23.3 avg.
1. If you intentionally lose a lap we do not want you to sprint. Points races tend to be more difficult than scratch races because the pace is lifted every 5 laps, but it is a great workout so I hope we continue to see the good number of people showing up on Tuesdays. Thank you for making this series a success. He will be racing with the Bs next time! Good racing and training for the remaining riders.

Cs results
1- Kalman Zeigler, (Godspeed Courier) plus one lap
2- Rich Hill (LGBRC)
3- Justin Morgan (FresnOakland)
4- Kelly Bartholomew (Proman)
5- Tim Brennan (Cal Road Club)
Others- Hanan Alves-Hyde (Vanderkitten); Glenn Drummond (unattached); Dylan Drummond (Tieni Duro); Eli Tanner (Montano Velo); Sarah Clatterbuck (VeloGirls); Sam Bell (Team Awesome); Jeff Remer (Roaring Mouse); Christian Villasana (Team Swift); Eduardo Villasano (Roaring Mouse); Erica Donald (Velo Bella/ Kona); Linda Locke (Velo Bella/ Kona); Natasha Perry (Velo Bella/ Kona); and Arya Touserkami (unattached)

Bs Brief Commentary:
- 14 starters in the B race. 70 laps in 36 minutes for a 24.5mph average. I love watching the B races as the competition is usually a lot tighter and the racing is fast. Nole bridged up to Steven, Joel and Aaron and they gained their lap, then Steven and Nole went for another laps with Nole jumping across to the field before Steven. Steven persisted, as did Aaron behind him and all three had gained their second lap. Aaron went off the front with Joel at the end to seal the win over a fast charging Nole who flew from the field.

Bs results
1- Aaron Hunter (SJBC, plus two laps)
2- Nole Studley (Roaring Mouse, plus two laps)
3- Steven Mielich (SJBC, plus two laps)
4- Joel Shaffer (Team Specialized Racing Juniors, plus one lap)
5- Dan Turner (Morgan Stanley)
6- Martin Dare (East Bay Velo)
Others- Marten Allen (Montano Velo); Ben Stern (Roaring Mouse); Kelly Silberberg (Morgan Stanley); Tim Fehon (unattached); Joe Fineman (Penn State); Mike Krynolk (Alto Velo); Shaun Locker (ETNA Brewing Co); Marc Franklin (unattached)

As Brief Commentary:
- 11 starters in the A race. 80 laps in 38 minutes for a 26.4mph average. Yikes, this race is proof that an average speed does not reflect the racing that we saw. The changes in speed were just what the riders needed to get into great shape, but not all riders could match all the changes in speed and fast pace. This sort of racing has happened in the past so I am taking a closer look at changing the race format.

As results
1- Michael Hutchinson (Morgan Stanley)
2- Jesse Mendonca (Lombardi Sports)
3- Patrice Gagnon (Pen Velo)
4- Matt Tamel (BPG)
Others- Mike Audley (Team Specialized Racing Masters); Rob Evans (Montano Velo Track); Shelley Olds (Proman); George Meilahn (IC3); Brian Becker (LGBRC); Steve Reaney (Cal Giant); Don Langley (Morgan Stanley)

Thank you all for supporting the track.
