Open Training Sessions

  • Tuesday and Thursday morning training sessions are for Advanced rider and motorpaced training. These morning sessions and all other training sessions are open to Category 3 and higher.

  • Category 4 and 5 riders may participate in open sessions after participating in three Saturday morning sessions and at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Open track sessions are not organized session. The assumption is that the attendees are fairly experienced track racers. It is essential that proper track etiquette be followed to insure that we have no unsafe situations. If you are not experienced at this type of workout, the best thing to do is tag along with someone who is a regular. The group does ride together at times but you are free to do pretty much what you want providing it is compatible with what others are doing. If there are only around 6 riders, restrictions are minimal. Workout compatibility is at the discretion of the Supervisor.  A typical workout starts with a 40-lap warm-up with the motor leading. This starts slow and speeds up gradually. Riders rotate off the motor each lap. You must be able to follow closely and safely to do this. After the warm-up, everyone is free to do his/her own thing. A number of riders begin with 100 meter jumps starting at the 200 meter line. Then, we will do some longer efforts such as motorpaced 200's or flying one-lap efforts. Being aware of what is happening is really critical at this point. In general, you need to know where the motor is at all times. When the motorcycle blows his horn you either stay on the stayer's line or preferably get onto the apron. Motor paced efforts are often done at over 40 mph. You can be caught very quickly and neither the motor nor the rider following it can maneuver quickly or stop if you swerve in front of them. Making sure that the riders on the track understand the safety issues is our best way to keep it safe.
