Promoter's Checklist

1) Decide race date and check with NCVA Race committee for availability.

2) Determine approximate race length and decide with race committee if rangers have to be notified in case race finish after the park closes.

3) IF race is USACycling race, then race categories 1-5. If ATRA race then either Cat 1-5 or use self-select A, B, C

4) If USACycling, get race permit

5) Decide events to be held and distance for each race and category:

a. Scratch
b. Points Race (could be short such as 15 laps, sprints every 3 laps or long like 100 laps sprints every 5 or 10)
c. Point-a-lap
d. Tempo (sprints every lap, 2-1)
e. Snowball
f. Miss n Out
g. Win & Out
h. Keirin
i. Chariot
j. Match Sprints
k. Madison
l. Team Sprint
m. Individual Time trail (500m to 4k)


6) Develop race flyer and provide to NCVA web site coordinator

7) Race Officials: Decide appropriate number (between 1 and 8) Most races that target local riders promoter only needs 1 licensed track official and 2 to 8 volunteers. Jobs that could be filled are:

a. Chief Official (can either float or take a job below)
b. 2nd licensed official (optional – placed on back stretch)
c. 3rd licensed official ((optional – one official in each turn)
d. Starter (gives rider a short description of race before start and has starter’s gun or whistle to signify start of race)
e. Scorer (possible 2 – have dictation device for scorer to use)
f. Lap card turner
g. Secretary (Insures all race results are complied and posted quickly)
h. Keirin driver if required


8) Insure Chief Official has obtained or developed scoring sheets for each race.

9) Race announcer: Not required, but good for spectators

10) Insure all necessary equipment is available:

a. Numbers & pins
b. Announcement system
c. Bell
d. Lap cards
e. Lights


11) Rider releases and NCVA membership

a. Have an up-to-date copy of the NCVA Release list
b. Have blank releases and membership forms available
c. Insure each racer of the event has a completed copy of each on file


12) At the end of the event, deposit $5 per rider into the drop box under the desk in the office container
