Women’s Training and Racing Programs
Hellyer has a long history of women who have raced our black line. 2012 US Olympic Road racer Shelley Olds and 2002 US Olympic team member and 2013 Cyclocross champ Karen Brems are just a few! In September 2012, Five Hellyer women’s squads(of four women each – many of whom had little to no pursuit experience) competed in the 2012 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships and brought home 2nd and 5th place medals -
unprecedented by any other velodrome team that year!
We have several programs geared toward bringing more women in to track cycling. Whether you are interested in racing or just learning more about track cycling for fun – we encourage you to
- Attend a Saturday morning session (or two) – great way to build your fitness and learn track skills
- Bring a girlfriend or your daughter to the weekly Intro to Racing sessions or Skills training sessions. Learn what its like to race in the track in a fun, low key environment
- Join one of our fun, scheduled programs, targeted specifically for women. Some examples are below:
Annual Women’s Race Training Series (formerly the Annual Women’s Track Clinic) runs March to June in a new, monthly format. Based on feedback, each of the 2014 sessions will have a specific race-type focus so that attendees can get a “taste” of the diverse disciplines available to them as track cyclists.

Women who have always wanted to learn and try track cycling are also welcome. We will cover fixed gear riding/racing, bike handling and track-specific skills, as well as mock races and strategy.
